What is Lawyer's Referral Service?
The local Broome County Bar Association provides the Lawyers Referral Service
to you. This service assists members of the general public in selecting an attorney
to counsel them in their personal legal matters. There is a fee paid to the
Bar Association and the client is then matched with an attorney for a one half
Do I Pay a Fee?
Yes, the fee of $35.00 is paid in advance to the Bar Association. There is
no fee to the attorney unless the consultation goes beyond the 30 minutes or
an agreement is made between you and the attorney for hire.
What Do I Get For The Fee?
You will be matched with an attorney practicing in the area of your legal concern.
After an appointment is made, the attorney will consult with you for 30 minutes.
Anything further must be negotiated between you and the attorney.
How Does LRS Choose An Attorney?
The attorney is chosen from a list of panel members separated into different
areas of concern, such as family law, contract law or bankruptcy.
Will I Be Able To Hire The Attorney I See?
Yes. The negotiations for hire are made directly between you and the attorney.

the following form, and mail it with your check or money order for $35.00 to:

Please include your name, address, phone number(s), and the area in which
you require a consultation. Upon receipt of your payment, you will be mailed
a letter listing the attorneys name, firm, address and phone number. You will
need to contact the attorney to schedule your 30-minute free consultation. If
you have a pending court date, or traffic ticket, please list the date and court
in which you are scheduled to appear.
Applicactions will not be accepted via email.
All LRS applications must be received via
standard USPS mail as the fee is required in advance of service.
