BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
The Broome County Bar Association was established in 1906 and is an association
which seeks to cultivate the science of jurisprudence; to promote reforms
in the law; to facilitate the administration of justice; to serve the
public; to elevate the standards of integrity, honor and competence in
the legal profession; to promote the interests and welfare of the profession
and particularly of the practicing lawyer; and to promote a spirit of
collegiality among its members.
The Broome County Bar Association is an accredited provider of continuing
legal education for the States of New York and Pennsylvania, allowing
you to meet your CLE requirements at a low cost. We offer seminars throughout
the year to keep you abreast of changes in the law, its procedures and
applications. We also offer the ability to obtain CLE credits in the State
of Florida through Florida's Video CLE program managed through the Broome
County Bar Association office.
You will have access to the members only section of the Broome County
Bar Association's website - offering information and contact between yourself,
the association and your colleagues. In addition you can sign up and participate
in our list-servs.
You will receive our monthly newsletter - the Bar Notes - which provides
updated information on what is happening in the legal community as well
as keeping you abreast of changes in the law and issues that effect you
and your practice as they happen.
You will receive invitations to participate in and attend our various
events, such as Law Day, the Annual Summer Outing, golf and tennis opportunities,
and Holiday parties held at various times throughout the year giving you
ample opportunity to network with your colleagues while you enjoy the
fun.
We have a roster of 29 active committees and urge you to become a member
of the ones that hold special interest for you. We are always looking
for new thoughts and ideas!
Our annual dues are listed below, and are payable each year on the first
day of January. New members who join after June 30 will pay one half of
the dues amounts listed below for that calendar year. Annual dues notices
will be sent to you each year in November.
For attorneys practicing:
Over 5 years - $85.00 (Office in Broome County)
5 years or less - $75.00 (Office in Broome County)
Associate Membership* - $65.00 (Office outside of Broome County
*Receives the same membership benefits as the
standard membership.
